Ryan & Megan | Engagement Session
A rainy Minneapolis engagement session.
Exactly one year before Ryan & Megan’s wedding day we ventured out with their puppy Maisy to take their engagement photos! Despite the forecast of rain all day, we met up at Hidden Falls in St. Paul for the nature portion of their session. We lucked out and thankfully it was only slightly drizzling, so we were able to hike up to the falls (umbrella in tow). Of course, this was the first day it had rained in weeks, so the falls were looking a little sad, but it still led to some awesome photos!
Maisy loved the walk, and even though she had been to the dog park earlier that morning, she was still crazy as ever. She was such a good girl though, and was very patient while we had her tied to trees, and with some convincing with treats, was able to pose nice and pretty for some family photos! After a bit she was getting a little restless though, so we decided to head back to the car. We had walked by a pavilion earlier on the way to the falls that had been empty, but when we passed it this time it was full of little kids at a summer camp. One girl spotted Maisy and asked to pet her, and suddenly we were surrounded by children! It’s so awesome to see how easily animals can bring people together, plus it gave us a nice little break from photos.
Our second location was about 10 minutes away in Minneapolis, but during the drive there the sky released a waterfall upon us. It was the kind of downpour that turns day into night, and roads into rivers. We reached our location and managed to park under a bridge, and decided to take some photos under the bridge while we were waiting for the rain to lighten up. Even being out of the direct rain, we were still getting drenched from the mist, and Maisy was freaking out. I would’ve loved to embrace the storm and take photos out in the downpour, but Ryan had to go to work right after our shoot, so that just wasn’t going to be possible. And the rain just kept falling relentlessly! It was clear that it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon, so unfortunately we had to cut the session short. I’m still super happy with the images we were able to make, and I’m looking forward to the second part of their engagement session with hopefully more cooperative weather!
