After all the racial injustice and destruction that occurred in the Minneapolis area at the end of May, I felt completely devastated at what was happening in my community and I knew I needed to find a way to help. I decided to utilize my talent of photography and hosted a local fundraiser in the form of offering ‘pay-what-you-can’ super mini photo sessions. This type of fundraiser not only supported organizations and businesses that are actively fighting injustice and/or rebuilding the community, but also gave people the opportunity to receive professional photos when they otherwise might not be able to. These photoshoots were about 10-15 minutes each, and took place at Fireman’s Park in Chaska, MN. Participants could choose between five different organizations that we researched and specifically chose that they wanted their money to go to. These five organizations were Black Lives Matter, Black Table Arts, Midtown Global Market Mend, Storehouse Grocers, and Voices for Racial Justice. We raised a total of $661, and the image at the end of this post shows how much each organization ended up receiving!
