Last month I had the opportunity to shoot with Grayson, a model based here in Kansas City. I found his page on The Hub, and contacted him through Instagram. (Isn’t social media awesome?!) He was super excited to set up a shoot with me, and I’ve had this vision in mind of doing a tennis court photo shoot, and his look was perfect for my vision.
Our plan was to meet up at 10am one day when the weather was supposed to be cloudy and not quite as hot as it had been. Unfortunately, the weather did not work out in our favor. It was bright and sunny, and the temperature was definitely rising while we were there. This created a couple different challenges for our shoot. I was forced to shoot in direct bright sun, which is not ideal and always a challenge, but I welcomed the opportunity to practice and work on my camera skills. Grayson was a trooper in his not-meant-for-summer outfits, even while he was melting under the sun.
Overall, this was a super fun shoot, and I got to photograph something totally different from what I have been shooting lately. I tried to focus more on composition, design, and aesthetic in this shoot, so I could play around with the different lines and colors that the tennis court provided. This ended up being more difficult than I imagined, but I am still happy with the final images! I’m looking forward to perhaps shooting something similar in the future to see how my photography and creativity has grown.
