For one of my assignments for college we had to create some sort of composite in Photoshop. At first I was feeling uninspired and really frustrated that I couldn’t come up with anything. After taking a short break from brainstorming, creativity suddenly slapped me in the face and I came up with this concept in less than a minute.
I only had two lanterns at my disposal, so I started by taking multiple images of the lanterns placed in different spots. Next, I took the image of Maddy laying on the ground. I had my camera set up on a tripod and the shutter speed was set at 2 seconds; once I clicked the shutter I ran over and test fired a speed light from the left towards Maddy. Nothing fancy, but it worked great! I did the same thing with the ghostly figure and I just took down the opacity in Photoshop. To get Maddy in that position I had her lay on a chair with her feet resting on a step stool, and I just had her flop over the chair as gravity would have it. And then I did a lot of compositing and toning edits in Photoshop and voila, the image was finished!
