My friend Cassie and I did this shoot together of Cassie’s lovely friend Allyson! Allyson brought her dog Charlie along with her, and we met up outside the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City to take some portraits.
The moment I saw Allyson in this gorgeous orange floral dress, I knew we were gonna make magic. Not many people can pull off the color orange, but Allyson wore it like a queen. It perfectly complimented her silver blond hair and gorgeous blue eyes, not to mention it even complimented Charlie’s fur!
Charlie was the sweetest pup there could be, and I loved entertaining him while Cassie was taking her turn photographing Allyson. He posed perfectly for photos and kept us all entertained! Allyson was a great sport as well. It was a rather windy day, but I was pumped to work with it instead of fighting it. Allyson battled the wind gracefully, even with a flowy dress and hair flying across her face constantly. She never once complained about her hair getting messed up, or the fact that we were bending the rules and walking through a field of pointy reeds while she was in heels. (My favorite kind of people!)
You’re probably questioning what I meant by “bending the rules.” There’s a sidewalk that goes along the outskirts of the Kauffman Center, next to a ledge that has signs that says to not climb the wall or walk through the field. I prefer to view rules more as guidelines, especially in situations such as these, when I know that plenty of other people have also bent the rules. Don’t worry though! I always respect the environment I’m in and make sure to not damage anything. And if a place is truly fragile and important, such as areas in National Parks or anything like that, I do follow the rules. I’d rather preserve the natural environment than risk damaging it just for one photo.
